Event Description

Join LAVA for our annual AGM and workshop on Tuesday, June 19. Our guest speaker is Reva Cooper, a consultant, researcher, writer and trainer, Reva draws from over thirty years’ experience in facilitating quality volunteer engagement.

Her presentation, "Positioning Yourself and Volunteers for True Impact", examines the breadth and value of our role as volunteer professionals. Do people understand what we do? Are our colleagues and supervisors aware of the broad range of professional skills and competencies required to successfully manage volunteer resources to meet organizational goals? Is the importance and value of volunteer efforts recognized? Is it supported? By building credibility and power you will be better positioned to effectively meet both your organizational and personal goals.

Reva's workshop will teach volunteer management professionals how to increase understanding and credibility for our profession, and to more strategically use our skills and volunteer teams to drive towards organizational success.

Reva believes strongly in the power of volunteerism, and the necessity of qualified leaders of volunteers to meet organizational goals. Her background includes impact roles as the founding Executive Director of the Volunteer Action Centre of Kitchener-Waterloo and Area and Co-ordinator of the Volunteer Management Certificate Program at Conestoga College.

In her consulting practice she assists a wide variety of “social profit”, public and charitable clients to mobilize volunteers, and to be innovative and proactive in addressing trends impacting volunteerism.

Reva has trained and published in association with Volunteer Canada, Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada, the Ontario Community Support Association, the Mennonite Central Committee and many others.

Reva is an active volunteer in Kitchener, and was honoured to receive the first ever Award of Merit at the Volunteer Action Centre Community Impact Awards.
