Position Description

Purpose: The Emergency Voucher Program serves thousands of Londoners by providing free clothing and household items on an emergency basis. We are looking volunteers who are passionate about helping others and working with disadvantaged community members. This position offers very rewarding front-line experience working with clients struggling with homelessness, poverty, substance addition, and mental health issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 Greet and assist Voucher Program clients arriving at the store.

 Complete a “check-in” process with clients at the start of their visit.

 Process the clothing and household items for the client, including completing all necessary paperwork, and using a Point of Sale barcode scanning system.

 Assist the Voucher Program Coordinator with other duties as assigned.

 Working with a partner or as part of a team, with some time working alone.

 Treat all customers and clients of the store with dignity and respect in accordance with Mission Services of London’s core values and policies.

 Attend the volunteer/staff team meetings and any volunteer training and development opportunities.

 Contact the Store Manager regarding scheduling, time off or other concerns.

Time Requirement: Length of Commitment: minimum 6 months
Estimated Total Hours: minimum 4 hours per week
Scheduling: daytime hours, some flexibility required

Skills and Qualities Required:
 Dependable with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
 A good listener and communicator.
 Physically able to lift small items and clothing. Some standing and walking required.
 Must be sensitive to the life circumstances and needs of clients.
 Ability to work in a faith based organization, adhering to the vision, mission and values.
 Vulnerable sector police check required.

Orientation and Training: Basic orientation to Mission Services of London begins at the time of application to become a volunteer and continues upon starting the position. Staff of The Mission Store will provide training. Participation in our monthly Branch Tour is strongly encouraged.
