Position Description

On Friday, June 2 The Salvation Army will be celebrating National Donut Day.  We are looking for volunteers to dress up in our adorable Sally Ann costume for 1 – 2 hours.  All you have to do is wave, give some high fives and hugs and if you so desire, you can even do a little dance or two!  The best part is no one knows who’s really inside the costume, so go ahead and act a little wild & crazy!

The holiday is a continuation of Donut Day when members of the Salvation Army provided donuts and coffee to service members during the First World War. The first Donut Day began as a way to cheer up soldiers who were risking their lives and limbs in the trenches during the war.

We will be distributing donuts outside at Covent Garden Market from 10 am to 2 pm.  The successful volunteer applicant will be required to be in costume during that time with 1 or 2 breaks, depending on temperature and humidity.

This can be a demanding role because of the necessity of wearing a costume. The applicant should be in good physical condition, approximately 5 feet to 5 feet 6 in height and of slim build in order to fit into the costume.
