Art of Volunteerism for New Canadians & Immigrants
This program's goal is to facilitate full and active participation of ethno-racial/cultural communities in volunteer roles through learning opportunities, volunteer referral and staff training.
It is led by Pillar Nonprofit Network, in collaboration with organizations providing settlement services in London - London Cross Cultural Learner Centre, London Public Library, LUSO Community Services, and South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre.
The program consists of:
Volunteer Sessions
- Sessions for individuals from various ethno-racial/cultural backgrounds with four partners who provide settlement services in London.
- Each organization will host a "How to Get Started Volunteering" session and a "Volunteering at Leadership Levels" session.
- After taking part in these sessions, volunteers and prospective board members will be able to participate fully in nonprofits and in decision-making processes and to offer leadership.
- We will enhance our Volunteer Referral online tool so that those who participate in either session will be able find meaningful volunteer roles that fit their interests and needs.
- Three months following their participation, we will follow up with the participants to inquire whether they have secured a volunteer role and whether they require one-to-one support.
Staff Training
Four customized staff trainings will be offered to each of the partner organizations so that settlement workers and other staff are educated about volunteerism and the use of the online volunteer referral database offered by Pillar Nonprofit Network.
