Neighbourhood Worker- Child and Youth

As a Neighbourhood Worker - Child and Youth, you will gain valuable, transferable skills by actively supporting children, youth and families of the Hamilton Road community of London, Ontario, through basic needs services, community development activities, and summer day camp (July and August).

Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Centre enhances food security, provides advocacy and referrals, facilitates meaningful community engagement, and offers a safe space for residents of all ages to socialize and develop new skills. A desire and the ability to work with children, youth and adults facing complex life circumstances (primarily related to low income) is a requirement of this position.

If you are an enthusiastic, proactive self-starter with a passion for community building and working with children and youth of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, ages and cultures, you will thrive in this position. This role calls for excellent time management skills, enthusiasm for recreation and willingness to work both indoors and outdoors. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assist in the development, organization and implementation of activities, programs and events in the community that enhance food security, build community connection and foster wellbeing among children, youth and families.

- Facilitate recreational programming indoors and outdoors and supervise field trips 5 days per week in July and August. Note that attendance at the Crouch Block Party on July 27th is mandatory - vacation cannot be taken that day. Another day off will be provided.

- Be a strong representative of the organization, emphasizing the core values and mission of Crouch

Qualifications:

- Previous experience working or volunteering in support of the community 

- Understanding of the root causes of poverty and a desire to learn more

- Highly organized with the ability to react appropriately to unexpected situations

- Ability to work well with a team and problem solve as an individual

- Ability to maintain required reports (attendance, daily logs, incident reports, etc.)

- Police records check for working with vulnerable populations (reimbursed)

This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs, applications must meet the follow eligibility criteria set out by Canada Summer Jobs:

  • - be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*;

  • - be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and, 

  • - have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
