Pillar and BDO announce new Co-Strategy Program for Nonprofits

Nonprofits are a critical part of the fabric of our community.  But in the face of growing demands for service and declining sources of funding, it can be increasingly difficult for organizations to address the many issues they confront.  With limited resources and staff, it is imperative that nonprofit boards and staff have a clear vision of where they want to go and how they are going to get there.

“When budgets are already stretched to the limit, and nonprofits are expected to do more with less, it can be a real challenge for charities to engage the professional expertise required to develop strategies to help them fulfill their missions in more effective and efficient ways,” according to Michelle Baldwin, Executive Director of Pillar Nonprofit Network. “Thanks to the support of BDO, we are pleased to announce the launch of Pillar Co-Strategy, an innovative program for organizations who are committed to strategy but need an affordable way to move forward with it.”

The Pillar Co-Strategy Program offers organizations the opportunity to develop a strategic plan that will guide their work over the next three to five years. The Co-Strategy program uses a unique, cost-effective approach to maximize the strategic planning process by allowing up to 6 organizations to come together at the same time with one facilitator.

Program Details:
Saturday, April 12, 2014, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Saturday, May 3, 2014, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Goodwill Industries Conference Room, 255 Horton Street, London, Ontario

Under the guidance of Nicole Kovacs, Pillar’s lead consultant, each organization will engage volunteers from their board along with members of their senior staff to develop a strategic plan tailored to their specific organization’s needs. The strategic planning process will result in the identification of strategic priorities, initiatives, goals, metrics and outcomes. Work plans will be created and tools will be provided to support the implementation of each organization’s strategic BDO will also share its expertise addressing issues around financial sustainability and the importance of long-range budgeting. As well, thanks to the generous assistance of BDO, a limited number of bursaries are available to allow organizations experiencing financial challenges to participate.

BDO Canada LLP works with a number of nonprofits in London and the surrounding area.  Phillip Weinstein (Partner) and Jen Buchanan (Manager) at BDO in London are members of BDO’s Not-for-Profit Industry Group and are pleased to be able to contribute to this initiative:
“Developing your objectives, ensuring you have the funds to realistically meet them ... and then checking back to ensure you are on-track and have taken changing conditions into consideration is key to ensuring you maximize the use of the funds available.”

Pillar Nonprofit Network and BDO are excited to partner to deliver this program as it will strengthen the impact of the nonprofit sector in our community.
